The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies will present its third annual simulation-themed symposium at the Simulation Hospital for Advancing Research and Education (SHARE™) on Friday, February 28. The event takes place in the SHARE™ auditorium at the school’s M. Christine Schwartz Center for Nursing and Health Studies.
Patricia Flatley Brennan, director of the National Library of Medicine, and tech-preneur Rony Abovitz, founder of Magic Leap, will address this year’s theme of “Virtualizing Living & Working Spaces.” Flatley Brennan’s keynote address, “Virtualizing Living & Working Spaces: A Strategy to Support Patients with Chronic Disease,” is the first in the school’s Nursing Now USA South Florida Lecture Series. Following her will be featured speaker Abovitz, discussing the role of wearable spatial computer technology in advancing the health sector.
The symposium also includes two faculty sessions. SONHS faculty on the SHARE™ Community Impact panel will address collaborations with the national group HEAL Trafficking (Health, Education, Advocacy, Linkage) and international global disaster response training organization Humanitarian U, as well as the integration of human trafficking recognition content into clinical curriculum. Faculty on the SHARE™ Innovation panel will demonstrate how they are using virtual and augmented-reality to increase student awareness and cognitive response, improve ultrasound training and procedural performance, and teach prevention and management of airway fires in the OR.
